REPORT

This is part two of a report written after I returned from Nias on November 2nd:
Dormitories
The three dormitories are full again after replacements were found for one girl who dropped out of school and one boy who was expelled. We have Christian dorms with rules consistent with the designation (no drinking, no smoking, no gambling, no girls in the boy’s dorm or boys in the girl’s dorm, a curfew, etc.) and some want more independence which never contributes to a more wholesome lifestyle. These young people go to high schools and, in sixteen cases this year, colleges of their choice. They must attend Sunday worship services and an age approp
riate Bible class one night a week. In addition, and partially at their request, more mature students now have special classes for song leading, sermon preparation and delivery and (in the case of the girls) Sunday school teaching. The fruits of the dormitory program are many, including the helping of the young people to get a better education and being more capable as they become part of congregations all over Nias some day. I asked for a list of those who lived in our dorms when they graduated from high school in 2010 and 2011. Read More→
